Chris Plunkett
"Walking Up Adams", cityscape, urban landscape, night, red, black, oil painting

2019

About the Item

Chris Plunkett’s “Walking Up Adams” is a late night nocturnal cityscape oil painting on cradled birch wood panel. The serene urban landscape depicts a shadowy figure walking through a peaceful vignette of contrasting darks and lights, providing the viewer with a colorful reflective scene on a rainy night. Its rich surface of thick textured paint is protected with an archival gloss varnish which both illuminates and protects the vivid hues of red violet, and black. The sides of the painting have been stained in order to enhance the beautiful wood-grain texture of the panel's original state. The painting comes with attached galvanized wire on back and is ready to hang. The finished wood sides complement the darks and lights, making this painting an amazing addition to any home or office. Chris Plunkett is a Boston-based painter. Plunkett’s focus on the urban landscape is inspired by where he interacts regularly. His paintings have been sold to collectors all around New England as well as New York and California. Plunkett is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

Her work, which has been exhibited at notable institutions such as MOMA PS1 and galleries including Cheim & Read Gallery (NY) and Carl Hammer Gallery (Chicago), has evolved from over the years from pastels to large-scale oil paintings and installations of people who she describes as “having not been integrated into mainstream society.” Her more recent paintings, inspired by selfies and iPhone photographs, attempt to convey the vitality and diversity of 21st century contemporary culture while capturing the ineffable moments in our lives. “The sensuality and radiant beauty of youth and ethnic diversity are depicted in my choice of subjects, as well as the ravages of time which are imprinted on our being. All stages of life are filled with humanity that both elevates and dissipates the spirit.” Her work has been written about in The NY Times, Art News, The Village Voice, The Star-Ledger, Newsday, Flash Art...
