About the Item
In his current series, “In Your Room”, Alex Blas explores modern day life by examining the private spaces of his friends. In these paintings, Blas carefully considers the shadows, colors, textures present in these spaces, as well as the light in which they exist. Blas’ subjects are often shown in captive, pensive isolation, highlighting the fact that these works are a privileged window into personal spaces.
Blas writes of his work, “My latest series follows a theme that is central to my work, privacy and personal space. It also shares the title to one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs, “In Your Room,” which starts, ‘In your room, where time stands still, or moves at your will.’ ”
Alex Blas was born in 1978 in Mexico City and received his degree in 1999 from Santa Ana College. His work has been shown at the Lyons Weir Gallery, New York, and the George Billis Gallery, Los Angeles, as well as Manifest Equality (Los Angeles) and at Legends of La Cienega, sponsored by Elle Décor magazine. Blas currently lives and works in Northern California.

- Woman in a Red Dress, Mid Century Female Illustrator/ Artist, Elizabeth Taylor ?By Gladys Rockmore DavisLocated in Miami, FLMid-century female illustrator/artist Gladys Rockmore Davis paints a compelling portrait of a contemplative beauty who looks like Elizabeth Taylor. Frontal and lateral forces work together in this pyramidal composition. The sitter stares down at the viewer creating a frontal tension. Her hypnotic gaze is counterbalanced by the lateral movement of her crossed hands and triggers an emotional response. Gladys Rockmore Davis is both a work-for-hire illustrator and a fine artist- She was an illustrator for clients such as Upjohn, Munsingwear, Elgin Watches, and Johnson & Johnson. Davis had a show at the prestigious Midtown Gallery and Babcock Gallery in New York. She studied at the California School of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, and Art Students League. William R.
