2016

About the Item

Sculptor Studio with the Endless Column, 2016 Acrylic on canvas 82 43/64 H x 107 7/8 W in. 210 H x 374 W cm The artist's reference to fundamental myths of humanity and their analysis from the perspective of contemporary society is the foundation of his creation. Rădvan is fascinated by mythology, symbols, fabulous and ineffable, story and the legend in itself. His heroes emerge from the artist's deep desire to take possession of the myth, to understand the underlying springs, and to deliver it to the viewer in a manner that does not take account of norms and conventions. The artwork "Sculptor Studio with the Endless Column" is a commentary regarding the reinterpretations of the symbols used by the renowned Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi. Alexandru Rădvan placed the Endless Column and other sculptural forms that made references to the important sculptors of the XX Century as Alberto Giacometti, Henry Moore, Niki de Saint Phalle on canvas. The painting is a cultural commentary regarding the historical debate between painting and sculpture.
