In a letter written to Czóbel after he had become quite ill in 1975, famous Portuguese painter Vieira da Silva writes:
“My very dear Czóbel, We embrace you from the deepness of our long-standing friendship and admiration. Your magic colors have followed us all the length of your life as a painter. Very soon we will come to throw our arms around you. Arpad and I at home drink to your health and to the health of Maria and to the health of your daughter. Long live Czóbel and beautiful painting!”
