About the Item
Carole Garland chooses to refrain from painting sentimental peasant paintings inspired by her travels abroad. Here she departs in a major way. Intrigued by the pigeons gathered on the steps during a rainy day in Turkey, she focuses on two men, one young wearing a hoody and the other older, both seeming to be frustrated or anxious. The fighting pigeons in the foreground heighten the tension.
Her travels to Turkey as well as to other disparate countries such as Finland and Burma, far apart geographically and in every other which way, have given her an appreciation of different cultures and the wide-ranging points of view in both life and in art.
