Pear Never Break - LOVE - Contemporary Art, Figurative

About the Item

Artist: Chaoji Zhang Born in 1985 Shandong China, and currently living in Beijing When drawn an object or a group of objects, the parts out of the object will naturally become the "background" of the paintings. However, the artist only wants to paint the object itself, the "background" appears as a forced outcome. And this kind of "background" should not be a part of the paintings. When the object is removed from the painting, the ”background” will disappear at the same time. Always imagined drawing an arbitrary line or figure on a canvas, because all of them are plausible. When people comment on a painting, they may comment on the colour, the shape and so on. It is rational to question any part of the painting if humans did the painting. It is because any colour, line, or brush stroke painted by humans is the product of human subjective consciousness. People may never question the rationalization of the distribution of spots on an egg, the shape of a scratch on a pear, or the scratch on the skin of a white gourd, etc. It is because these natural elements will not be affected by human’s subjective consciousness, which could define these natural elements as "non-subjective" things. While the artist combines all these "non-subjective" natural elements into one artwork, then each part of the artwork rationally should not be questioned. Chaoji Zhang is currently interested in exploring some objective artistic laws that are not affected by human subjective consciousness. And these artworks are incidental products while thinking and dialectics in the process of exploration. The artist hopes these objective laws could stand the test of time, across cultures, eras, places, and so on.

Signed and dated. «This is not a prison» was part of O. F. Hvidsten's first solo-exhibition «This will never pass». The works comprising the exhibition is first and foremost a visual memory of two dramatic years since 2020 that have affected us all. Covid, and its consequences, have become a common point of reference that we will all talk about and bear remembrance to for a long time. But our memories are like life itself; dynamic and in constant change, often weakening with time, and can either ebb out or be reinforced. O.F. Hvidstens work in this period stand out as an anchor point for this common experience. Ole Fredrik Hvidsten...
