Cindy Press
Cindy Press is a visual artist living and working in New York. She was born and raised in Philadelphia where she graduated with a BFA in Fashion Illustration from Moore College of Art and Design. Press had a successful career as a fashion designer working with artists such as Peter Max, best known for his work in the 60s, she interpreted his paintings into wearable art. She has recently returned to her art practice after taking time off to raise her two daughters. “My original goal was to create paintings that are simply striking and beautiful, getting back to my roots of fashion illustration. As I started my process of reinvention, I found myself drawn to images of women that are edgy and sexy. Collecting clippings from magazines and editorials as inspiration, I work in a realistic manner depicting portraits and figures of females. When I begin to work, I notice a peculiar shift in my thought process. I am no longer concerned about the beauty of the image but instead how it speaks to me, what does the expression or pose represent to me? My focus changes entirely as I consider a history of experiences while I paint. I think about my life, my family and friends. The relationships, the love, the hurt, the anguish and my conflicts come into play. There is so much more behind a person’s appearance. Through the cult of beauty in contemporary mass media I am investigating the psychological complexity of women.”
- "Blue Siren" colorful contemporary oil painting of a mermaid with flowersLocated in Edgartown, MALily Sol’s current work “Flower Goddess” is a symbol of blooming into her true self and honoring the divine femine energy within all of us. Through her paintings she is able to celebrate the fierce women in her life and shine light on the diverse and unique beauty of cultures around the world. She loves exploring different mediums in her art journal, playing with collage, acrylic paints, watercolors, and pressed blooms. While painting she tries to stay in an intuitive mindset and allow her works to transform naturally—always seeking the harmony between staying loose yet in control, yin & yang of life. Bright colors, a playlist she can dance...Category

- Happy Landing, Amoco AdvertisementBy Joseph Christian LeyendeckerLocated in Fort Washington, PAMedium: Oil on Canvas Signature: Signed Lower Left Sight Size 20.75" x 40.00", Framed 30.75" x 50.00" During his over four decades as the preeminent illustrator for The Saturday Evening Post, Joseph Christian Leyendecker's clever illustrations were eagerly anticipated by enthusiastic readership across the country, and none more so than his holiday designs. One of Leyendecker's most celebrated creations was his groundbreaking idea of the New Year's Baby. Originally portrayed as a fleshy sweet-faced child complete with tiny angel wings, the New Year's Baby gradually morphed into a worldly tot acutely aware of the social and political issues facing the nation at the time. In fact, Leyendecker's final Post cover illustration was the 1943 New Year's Baby. Following the success of these Post covers, the artist was hired to create advertisements for the American Oil Company (AMOCO). Throughout the 1940s and through the final years of his life, Leyendecker produced ads incorporating his famed New Year's Baby into AMOCO advertisements, as in the present work, Happy Landing...Category
