About Artist
Segun Phillips is a young studio-trained artist with a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Phillips' work is greatly influenced by the Araism painting technique invented by Mufu Onifade. Under Onifade's tutelage, Phillips imbibed the painstaking spirit of keen observation and rapt attention to detail. His Araism painting style lends dynamism to his art.
Phillips started his Art journey about a decade ago. After years of learning and honing his skills under Mufu Onifade, he was able to develop his own unique style of painting, which he calls WOODISM: the use of paint to create wood-like effects in painting. This is derived from the popular Araism technique. Phillips won 1st prize in the Union Bank Centenary Art Challenge in 2017.
Segun is a firm believer that increased investments in creative platforms are key to engaging young people and channeling youthful energy into creating a better society.

He employs vibrant oil colors, often focusing on primary colors that transition into secondary and tertiary hues. His subjects stand out against neutral backgrounds, creating a harmonious balance in his paintings. A prominent feature in his works is the use of red, blue, and yellow tones, subtly blended to emphasize form and shape.
