About the Item
"Aubergine Overhead" by Denise Stewart-Sanabria is an oil-on-canvas hyper-realist food portrait from the artist's widely successful ongoing series "Edible Dramas." In this piece, Sanabria examines genetic hybridization by posing long and irregular Chinese eggplants grown in her personal garden next to fuller, plump ones with market stickers. The artist presents the eggplants as the natural world atop the man-made represented as a plastic shopping bag and ceramic tiles with a vine relief pattern.
About the Artist:
Denise Stewart-Sanabria is a Knoxville-based artist born in Massachusetts. She received her BFA in Painting from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst.
Her recent paintings focus on commercial design over the centuries as an insight into human desire juxtaposed with contemporary food dramas. Sanabria paints hyperrealist "portraits" of everything from produce to subversive jelly donuts. These "anthropomorphic food narratives" often reflect human behavior.
"When you look at the interior design and products from different times in history, you are reading the culture, dreams, and preoccupations of that time," says Sanabria.
She is also known for her life-size charcoal portrait drawings on plywood, which are cut out, mounted on wood bases, and staged in conceptual installations. In 2019, Sanabria was awarded a Tennessee Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant for her work on wood.
Her work has been featured in multiple solo shows across the country. It is included in various museums, private, and corporate collections, including The Tennessee State Museum, The Knoxville Museum of Art, Huntsville Museum of Art, Omni and Opryland Hotels, Federal Reserve Bank in Nashville, Knoxville Botanical Gardens, and the corporate offices of McGhee Tyson Airport to name a few.

- Modern Times VIBy Carlos Gamez de FranciscoLocated in Nashville, TN"Modern Times VI" is an acrylic-on-canvas painting from a small series by Cuban artist Carlos Gamez de Francisco. Done at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, this series of portraits depicts only the top half of the female subjects' faces to reflect how people see each other while wearing masks. The artist emphasizes the face by depicting the subject's features, specifically their eyes, in precise detail against blank, monotone backgrounds. "Modern Times VI" depicts a young woman with light-brown curls and an ornate antique silver headpiece...Category

- Tulips in red and yellow in Red Vase -21st Century Realistic Flower PaintingBy Joran van der HaarLocated in Nuenen, Noord BrabantJoran van der Haar Red vases with Tulips 120 x 120 cm ( framed 130 x 130 cm, frame is included in price) oil on canvas The realistic painted "17th century style' bouquets by Joran van der Haar, are always an eye-catcher in our gallery. The colorful bouquets look natural but have a long history of months of meticulous and layered work. It is sometimes difficult to predict when Joran's work can withstand its own "test of criticism". In addition, the layered work with oil paint sometimes also ensures long drying times. Shortening this is undesirable. In 2014 the artist started experimenting and painting with oil paint, flowers and insects soon turned out to be his preference. Again, this was a source of inspiration. The artist about his work: ‘In the Rijksmuseum and Mauritshuis I found the still lifes of Jan Davidsz. de Heem, Jan van Huysum and Ambrosius Bosschaert...Category
