Fidan Kim
Fidan Kim found early artistic success for her surreal, magical scenes and her ability to tell powerful stories through many mediums. Her figurative paintings and drawings are inspired largely by her dreamscapes. "Dreams are very important to me," she told Baku magazine. "I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and have to grab a piece of paper and make a quick sketch."
Kim was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, and remembers loving art since early childhood. She began painting with watercolors as a toddler and realized that she wanted to be an artist when she was 12 years old. With support from her mother and grandmother, Kim embarked on a journey to pursue her passions. In the late 2000s, she began attending master's art classes in Edinburgh and Italy, and in 2014, she enrolled at the Azerbaijan State Art Academy.
Kim's art quickly garnered attention for its deep imagery. She often incorporates folk motifs and national symbols in her work, and she is not shy about using rich colors that pop off the canvas to grab the viewer's attention. Within just a few years of starting her career, Kim's artwork had been exhibited in Tbilisi, Paris, Moscow, New York, Shanghai and Beijing.
In 2022, Kim was also invited to exhibit at the Venice Biennale. Her striking installation, Totem, explores humanity's struggle against itself and with the environment. Today, Kim lives and works in San Francisco and is represented by galleries worldwide.

- 'Security' Conceptual Nude PortraitBy Dinh Y NhiLocated in Rye, NY‘Security’ is a large framed contemporary surrealist figurative oil on canvas painting of vertical format, created by Vietnamese artist Dinh Y Nhi in 2010. Featuring a cold palette mostly made of grey and black tones, accented with blue and beige touches, the painting depicts a frontal view of a nude figure. This piece exemplifies Y Nhi's style of paintings as her success with two-colors; red, blue or black and white, addresses modern themes and issues devoid of gender. Her figurative surrealism style of stick figures is warped and elongated, stretched out of proportion. Each figure tilts and twists at painful angles. They bring to mind the famous harrowing faces in Edward Munch's ‘The Scream’, or the difficult distorted ones from the portraits of Francis Bacon. But most of the faces Y Nhi paints are miniature ones devoid of details, deceptively random and simple brush strokes. There is a playfulness that reflects the outer images the painter projects of herself. Her style also allows her to convey complex textures, and emotions, in her images. Dinh Y Nhi is a graduate of Hanoi's School of Fine Arts. Her work has been exhibited in many shows in Vietnam. She is receiving much notice among the Vietnamese press and art patrons in the United States, Australia and Asian countries. With its powerful presence and great proportions, this surrealist oil on canvas painting will be a definite conversation piece in any home, whether placed above a sofa, console table or enfilade. Set inside a frame, the painting is titled in the lower section. 1967: Born in Hanoi, Vietnam 1989: Graduated from Hanoi Fine Art University Exhibitions: 2011: Group Exhibition Art Asia Miami, Florida, AiBo Fine Asia Art 2011: Portrait, Dinh Y Nhi & Le Thiet Cuong...Category

$25,000 Sale Price28% OffFree Shipping - Hello Hen ! Large Surrealist Contemporary Oil on Canvas.By Frank DochertyLocated in Cotignac, FRLarge surrealist contemporary oil on canvas by Scottish artist Frank McLean Docherty R.S.W. This piece whilst wonderfully colourful, playful and erotic is typical of the witty sense of humour this artist displays in all his work. The title 'Hello Hen !' ( Hen being the scottish slang for 'girl' ) is used playfully as a double-entendre. In the image we see the artist has before him a beautiful naked woman and yet chooses to paint the real hen. Also we notice that the plant's flower heads under the woman are wilting and the artist pictured (a self portrait of Docherty), an older man, suggest that the artist's desires are on the wane. Docherty likes to tease us visually and asks questions and presents conundrums to the viewer. Frank McLean Docherty was born in Glasgow , Scotland in 1942. He became a student at Glasgow School of Art in 1960 and graduated from the Department of Printed Textiles in 1964. He taught in a secondary school in the East End of Glasgow for two years, thereafter departing to work in Dublin in the Republic of Ireland as a textile designer (Marks & Spencer, Heals and Liberty of London). He was also an illustrator for a range of newspapers and an Art Director of magazines. In 1973, he was appointed Principal Teacher of Art in a Scottish High School and in 1978 was honoured by the Queen when he was appointed Member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours (R.S.W.) He left education in 1994. Since that time he has developed a vision which is quite unique in Scottish Art. Bank Managers, toucans, lighthouses, penguins, bowler hats, Frank Docherty...Category
