A. Fontaine
19th century oil painting

About the Item

An exceptionally vibrant original oil painting of chrysanthemums, estimated late 1800s. The movement of the flowers contrasts beautifully with a charmingly naiive vase and table. Year: c. late 19th century Canvas size: 56cm x 38cm Framed size: 69cm x 52cm Framing: Decorative hand-finished frame in keeping with the style of the painting. Signature: Signed by the artist “A. Fontaine” Detailed Condition: The canvas has been patched on the reverse in three places and the painted surface retouched in those areas. Mild craquelure to the painted surface, which do not detract form the stunning vibrancy of the artwork. The artist A. Fontaine has no online record. However, the verso of the artwork presents a stamp from “Moirinat, Paris”, a renowned high-quality art shop located in the Faubourg Saint Honoré from 1864 to 1923. This allows us to estimate the age of the painting.

  • Large Panel of 9 Original Modernist Relief Sculptures by Ron Hitchins
    Located in London, GB
Stunning original panel made of 9 handmade fibreglass relief sculptures from the artist's own home. Each sculpture is unique, with beautiful rust and copper tones, and several are signed by the artist. This very large, striking piece has a great Brutalist and Modernist feel. It is particularly notable as an example of Hitchin’s mastery of finishing techniques in simulating aged metal. The relief sculptures were visible outside of Ron’s house and became a Hackney landmark. They were carefully removed by the artist's estate after Ron passed away. Year: unknown (Ron was active from the mid 1960s to the early 2000s) Colour: Rust and copper tones Signature: 5 of the relief sculptures bear the artist's trademark initials “RH” Framing: The sculptures have been carefully mounted on a cotton covered board with a walnut wood trim and a hidden subrame on the reverse for ease of hanging. Authenticity: This piece was purchased directly from the Artist's Estate and comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the sole executor of the Ron Hitchins...
