Gary Evans
Gary Evans is a Canadian abstract artist and painter, born in 1966, in Weston Super Mare, England and lives in Alliston, Ontario. He is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design and is the Coordinator at the School of Design and Visual Art, Georgian College, Barrie, Ontario. Evans is widely recognized for his distinctive painting practice that spans two decades. His vibrant paintings challenge traditional notions of perception and our experience of the landscape. His inventive approach references historical paintings, Arcadian subjects and lively Baroque brushwork, as well as contemporary themes, such as consumerism and urban sprawl. Layered with dense colors and shifting points of perspective, his paintings challenge us to view the world around us, from an alternative vantage point, accelerated by movement through space and time. Further emphasizing the visual impact of our increasingly technological culture, his collages arrange excised imagery from fashion magazines, into carefully constructed spatial collisions. Decontextualized, these fragments depict abstracted formal structures that echo the mysterious and furtive energies of his paintings. With a career spanning more than two decades, Evans’s numerous solo exhibitions include “Seeing Things: The Paintings of Gary Evans," which toured across Canada and "Station,” a survey of paintings presented at the Art Gallery of Windsor. He has participated in group exhibitions across Canada and internationally, at venues including Humber Arts and Media Studios, in Etobicoke, Ontario, Deluge Contemporary, Victoria, British Columbia, the Tina B. Biennial, Prague, Czech Republic and the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan.

- Large Ragged Gloves (Triptych)By Judith BerryLocated in Montreal, QuebecThe themes visited in this show stem from a desire to extend the vocabulary of my painting while forming a metaphor for the chaos of contemporary life. The title, Escalade, has differing and complimentary functions in English and French. Continuing to paint, over a lengthening career, the medium poses more questions than answers. The title is a reference to my attempt to overcome these difficulties through the expansion of my painting language. The title also refers to the escalation of crises in the world at large. It is the larger picture in which I am a small person trying to make my way. In a concrete sense, the title also refers to a strategy I have taken in a number of these paintings. That is, to re-examine very small paintings...Category
