About the Item

After Vespers is an original modern artwork realized by Giovanni Battista Crema in the first decades of the XX Century. Original Oil painting. Hand-signed by the artist on the lower left corner: G.B. Crema. A gilded decorated frame is included. Label of exhibition applied on the back. Mint conditions. Interesting work depicting several nuns in procession after the vespers. On the upper right corner there is the silhouette of the church and the surface are warmed by the sunrise light. This work has been realized by the Italian artist Giovanni Battista Crema (Ferrara, 1883 – Rome, 1964). In 1889, he moved to Naples to study under Michele Cammarano and Domenico Morelli at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples. He then moved to Bologna to finish his studies. From 1903 to 1964 he lived in Rome. He mainly painted social subjects with symbolist style. He was influenced by Gaetano Previati. His work is included in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Museo Revoltella in Trieste, Italy, the Ascoli Piceno Museum at Palazzo dell'Arengo, Ascoli Piceno, Marche, and the Cassa di Risparmio di Tortona Foundation in Tortona, Italy.
