About the Item

The Cobbler and the Spinner is an original old master painting realized in the first half of the XVII Century by Johannes Lingelbach. Original oiu on canvas. Frame is included. Mint conditions. Beautiful and suggestive genre painting made by the Dutch painter and engraver Johannes Lingelbach in the mid-seventeenth century. The scene, very familiar, depicts a female figure bent over a man. The two figures are located under an arch; on the bottom, on the left, i find a small dog drinking from a bowl. In the background we see a landscape with a clear and clear sky and a castle in the distance. The composition is a typical depiction of the period: a pleasant and well-constructed genre scene depicting a weaver and a cobbler close to the tradition of Le Bambocciate, a particular kind of genre painting used in Rome between the 1625 and the 1700 especially by the European painters that used to live in Rome. The work has been realized by the Dutch artist Johannes (or Johann) Lingelbach (1622–1674), an engraver and painter. In the late 40s Johannes Lingelbach travelled to France and Italy. Lingelbach followed the style of the original Bamboccianti, Pieter van Laer, called Il Bamboccio, bringing his own Italianate style into influence of Northern European painters. He is one of the few Dutch painters of the Bamboccianti, whose works are documented in depth, making his influence greater in the progression of the style. This artwork is shipped from Italy.
