Small-format townscape of a London street with a car, a cyclist and an elegant woman in the foreground wearing a cheerful spring outfit. This feminine presence and the turquoise color of the sky offer an interesting contrast to the dark brown and purple tones of the street and its buildings.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
John Lawrence was born in London in 1934. He studied at Bromley College of Art ( 1952-1954) and showed at the Greenwich Gallery and with the Free Painters and Sculptors at the Trafford Gallery.
Manchester City Art Gallery and the Walker Gallery in Liverpool hold his work.
He has exhibited in England, Ireland and America.
Paintings bought by the Nuffield Foundation and The British Arts Council .
Featured in the 1990 Dictionary of British Art Vol. VI. 20th Century Painters and Sculptors.
