Francisco Domingo Marqués was a Spanish painter born in Valencia in 1842. He was a self-taught artist who began his career as a decorative painter before turning to portraiture, genre scenes, and landscapes. In 1864, Marqués moved to Madrid and joined the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, where he studied under Federico de Madrazo.
