Jorge Santos Marcos was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1973. From 2000 to 2004, he studied at the prestigious San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts. Over the course of fifteen years, Santos' artwork has been showcased extensively in both solo and group exhibitions, such as the "Extravaganza" in Zurich, Switzerland, the Biennale in Havana, Cuba, Spectrum Miami, and The Americas Collection. He currently lives and works in Miami, Florida. In his work, Marcos portrays anthropological figures that serve as a reflection on the human condition and a figuration of the divine as it was believed to be present in the representation of human form. These suspended beings exude a spiritual depth reminiscent of early Renaissance aesthetics and the linear grace of Botticelli's late Italian Gothic paintings. Similarly, Marcos approaches canvas and paper as vessels to traverse the depths of human existence and provoke introspection and emotional resonance. By presenting his anthropological figures in a suspended state, he invites viewers to contemplate the fragility and temporality of life, as well as the perception of our own physicality. In Marcos's art, the metaphysical within us can be seen not only in the subject matter but also in the way he infuses his pieces with a sense of transcendence.
