Katherine Kallick
Two Nude Female Models in Acrylic on Paper San Francisco Abstract Expressionist

1973-77

About the Item

Two Nude Female Models in Acrylic on Paper San Francisco Abstract Expressionist Colorful painting of two models by acclaimed bluegrass musician and San Francisco artist Katherine "Kathy" Kallick (American, b. 1952). Both females are nude, one with bronze-colored skin and dark hair is reclining over a bold red blanket, the paint strokes of her face giving a Fauvist-style feel. The other, with lighter skin in pink tones, is standing with her arms holding the back of her head and her back arched. Unsigned, but was acquired with a collection of the artist's work. Paper size: 22.5"H x 28.5"W Katherine Kallick (American, b. 1952) studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1973-1977. Kathy Kallick’s first musical influence was her mother, Dodi. Music historian Larry Ehrlich wrote, “Dodi Kallick’s voice could be as tender as Carter Stanley, as plaintive as Piaf, or as cutting as a straight razor. It could bring sorrow to your heart or a smile to your lips.” Although central to Chicago’s folk scene, Dodi never recorded in a studio. But an uncovered reel-to-reel of radio broadcasts inspired Kathy Kallick to follow her 2002 project, My Mother’s Voice, with an 18-track sequel. On Disc 1, Kathy invited friends to perform the songs she learned from her mother, and Dodi’s voice is heard on Disc 2. The collection’s title track, “What Are They Doing in Heaven Today,” appears on both. She discovered her interest in bluegrass while living in San Francisco, and co-founded the internationally acclaimed group Good Ol' Persons. She has since gone on to release 22 albums.

Chicken Sandwiches 40" x 30" Abstract Figurative Mixed Media Works on Paper Signed *This work is may also available matte and framed for $2400* "My figurative work started as a challenge to myself. Sometimes, when I’m stuck in a painting rut, I challenge myself to do the one thing I least could imagine myself doing, let alone well. So that is how the figures started. My process often starts with a simple line drawing, and then I add layer after layer, incorporating unusual color combinations of acrylic paint, spray paint, oil pastels and colored pencils. I often go back and forth between some type of drawing and painting. And, I like to explore using different media like stencils and collage as well." ~Allison Meyler Allison Meyler is a contemporary painter, with a love for color, pattern, and bold gestural drawing that is apparent throughout her work. Over the last ten years, Allison has worked in several main series: abstract, faces, figures, nudes and bar art. Regardless of the subject matter, Allison’s process remains constant. She works in layers of different media, often starting with a simple but bold sketch for structure and then adding different elements such as acrylic paint, oil pastel, spray paint, acrylic ink, colored pencil, collage and RIT dye on hand washed and fringed linen...
