WASHINGTON DISAPPEARING - Oil on Yupo Panel Painting of Plant Life in the Forest

2021

About the Item

This piece is about the allegory of being “lost in the woods” and the many different things that can mean right now. I always come by a site for my paintings by wandering into the woods, first as an escape - but as I wander deeper I get more and more lost and eventually consumed by it all. Coming across logging sites and feeling a deep loss in the scene before you, I have to document that, and encapsulate the feeling. Each stump tells its own story, and this one in particular was framed in such a way by the surrounding organism, its story could be told through this painting. It’s not completely literal - the paintings are not the illustration of that story - it was more of an idea to set the tone/psychology and help me work through the painting.
