Luigi Ademollo
Neoclassical figurative tempera on paper with a religious theme.

1810-1820

About the Item

Measurements with frame: 87 x 69 cm In this tempera dated between the second and third decade of the 19th century we find an iconographic design with a sacred character by neoclassical painter Luigi Ademollo. The subject matter pertains to three episodes from the Old and New Testaments: a large central polychrome clypeus with the Transfiguration of Christ, in the central top tile The Son of the Widow of Naim resurrected, and in the central bottom tile The Resurrection of Lazarus. The two minor subjects are indicated by a caption handwritten by the artist clearly visible on the outer frame of the scenes, while the central one can be clearly deduced from the iconographic elements of reference to the biblical episode (Synoptic Gospels: Mark 9:2-8; Matthew 17:1-8; Luke 9:28-36). excerpt from the expertise of Dr. Egle Radogna
