About the Item

Righting A Wrong, 2021 Oil on canvas 23 5/8 H x 19 11/16 W in. 60 H x 50 W cm The painting imagines a city in a continuous present in which elements of the past intertwine with elements from the present. Over the emblematic buildings of any European city - the triumphal arch, the theatre, the history museum - female characters cut from different eras and histories are superimposed to underline the coexistence of a hypothetical set of multiple possible universes that make up the whole of reality.      Mihai Florea's artworks focus on alternative temporal histories, offering a delicate social commentary - as is clear from the titles - this mix of different eras has a necessary distancing effect that allows the artist to approach collective memory in an ironic-metaphorical way. Progress, as we understand and approach it today, is represented in the works by the existence of means of locomotion, which refer to a particular era - the carriage, bicycle, car, scooter, etc. The characters' dress style also gives an x-ray of society, expressing a certain mentality and coexistence.
