Patrick Pietropoli
Patrick Pietropoli captures the opulence of lavish interior spaces, the gritty hustle of metropolitan urban life and the quiet of solitude with equal skill and artistry. Each of his original paintings offers a scene that brings the viewer into an intimate moment. Pietropoli masterfully evokes a mood on the canvas — whether silent serenity, irritable angst or bright optimism — forming an emotional connection between the artist, the viewer and the subject.
Born in Paris in 1953, Pietropoli developed a love for art in his childhood, as he spent hours drawing and made frequent visits to museums with his grandfather. In 1978, he received a master’s degree in ancient history from François-Rabelais University.
After graduating, he worked as a history teacher while using his free time to paint and sculpt. In 1983, he had his first solo exhibition in the Galerie Véro-Dodat in Paris, followed by solo shows at the Galerie Michel Ozenne in Paris and the Galerie 31 in Lille, France.
In 1986, Pietropoli quit his teaching job and devoted himself fully to painting and sculpture. From 1986 to 1989, he worked on a sculpture commissioned by the Mutuality of Pas-de-Calais. He also exhibited his art extensively in Paris and around France.
In 2001, he began to exhibit around the United States — including shows in New York, Miami and Chicago — and across Europe. In 2008, Pietropoli moved to New York City, where he continues to live and work.
