About the Item

Signed middle right with monogram, 'P.T.'; additionally signed verso, dated 1974 and titled 'UCLA Dance Class'; accompanied by artist's business card. Born in England, Pearl Took first studied at the Skipton Art School (1943-7) and, subsequently, at Sir John Cass College (1947-9). After immigrating to California in 1957, Took commenced her active career as a fine artist, also becoming an art teacher at Pasadena City College and a freelance illustrator with the Pasadena City News. As her painting style matured and evolved, she continued to further her studies, including at such prestigious institutions as the California State College, the Art Center of Design, the Otis Art Institute and the Parsons School of Design, among others. Over the course of a long career, Pearl Took was the recipient of numerous prizes and awards and exhibited with success, both at one-woman and group shows. Encaustic techniques. 1960s Art Instructor, West Los Angeles College. Experimental mixed media class.
