Su Yu is a Chinese artist born in 1987 who lives & works in Beijing in China. He was an old student of prestigious art teachers as Shi Liang & Chen Danqing at Oil Painting Institute in Beijing.
This painting The Delayed Olympia Gold Medal of Manet, as we all know, Manet's Olympia is his most representative work, the naked woman in front is Venus, many masters before, such as Titian, Velazquez and others have painted Venus "goddess" picture, but to Manet, he subvert people's cognition, he turned the "goddess" into a prostitute. This is undoubtedly a new revolution and innovation, but Manet also paid a heavy price, was criticized, even reviled, tarnished his reputation, and did not personally see this brilliant work recognized until his death. Years after his death, and with great difficulty, he finally entered the Louvre. This is the tragedy of the art world, but it can witness the greatness of Manet! So I would like to present a special award for Manet and a best actress award for this naked woman, the prostitute. It represents giving everything to art, daring to challenge the world, not satisfied with the footprints left by predecessors, and daring to make bold and extraordinary creations.
