"The story in my mind, is that her husband has been gone longer than he should've been. She's concerned. Maybe he went to hunt for some food and should have been back a while ago. That's the tension in the piece. It's a specific location along the Missouri River that breaks in Northern Montana. It's a nice float and packed with history." - Todd Connor Biography: Todd Connor was born in 1964 and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His background of camping, hunting and fishing while growing up sparked his interest in the outdoors and American history. At the age of twelve he started painting in pastels and oils. His subject matter ranged from landscapes to fish, wildlife and western themes. Now Todd’s primary subject matter are the people who settled the American West such as the pioneers and mountain men and their relationship with the land they explored and settled. He makes it his business to walk the land and float the rivers of the characters in his paintings, attend mountain man rendezvous and to paint on location as much as possible to get the sense of place. This is absolutely essential to him as is researching the subject matter. In the past several years Todd has found another passion in painting urban cityscape scenes. After visiting New York and San Francisco in recent years he got inspired by the moods of the city, the contrast of manmade and organic, and, as in the western scenes, man’s relationship with his environment, but this time in the modern world. Todd moved to Montana in 1999 and has his home and studio in McAllister, near Ennis, Mt. Todd has participated in Art for the Parks, the Oil Painters of America exhibition, Settlers West Gallery’s American Miniatures show and Great American West exhibit in Tucson, AZ. He has participated in the CM Russell Show and Auction in Great Falls, Mt. for the past twelve years and was recently invited to be a part of the Russell Skull Society, an exclusive group of 22 artists based on their commitment to carrying on the legacy of Charley Russell and his contemporaries. Todd has been featured in many magazine and newspaper publications such as Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, Big Sky Journal among others. He continues selling through galleries, auctions and private commissions.
