After a change in circumstances, she found herself with time on her hands and a desire to create. Her evocative work of abstracted figures on rich, textured backgrounds has a dramatic effect upon the viewer. The ethereal figures seem to leap out of the oozing darkness—their beauty and lightness compliment the weighty depths that Sharp creates with a wide variety of mixed media—pigments, plaster, wax, and even coffee. Tracy currently resides in Atlanta, GA. She graduated from the University of Georgia where she received a Bachelors of Fine Arts. Tracy is also represented by galleries in Nashville, Charleston, Aspen, and California. From the artist: "I was raised in a home dripping with art. My childhood memories are filled with the smell of linseed oil, my mother's stained hands, jars of pigments, boxes of treasures. I resisted following in familiar footsteps, eager to find my own way. Eventually, I came to a fork in my path. My life shifted and suddenly I was still. I had nothing left to say, nothing left to do. Simply put, I picked up a brush, and I began to paint. My surfaces are heavy and time intensive. Layers of medium allow images to simply appear, like looking at clouds. My creative response forms around drips, pooling pigments and chunks of plaster. Images seem to move in and out, constantly morphing and spinning into something new." Tracy Sharp, daughter of Felice Sharp and mother of two boys, paints abstract figurative works using a blend of pigments and mixed media. In an interview with CNN, she said, "The best things in life are often disguised as tragedies. A declining market and difficult personal shifts encouraged me to reach beyond myself and into this world of art."
