Olio su tela. Scuola romana del XVII secolo. La grande scena rappresenta il famoso episodio a metà tra la storia reale e la leggenda, raccontato per la prima volta da Tito Livio nei suoi "Ab urbe condita libri" (i libri della "Storia di Roma dalla sua fondazione"). Per popolare la città appena fondata, Romolo fondatore e primo re della città, ricorse ad uno stratagemma: invitò alla festa dei Consualia, in onore del dio Nettuno, i Sabini, che abitavano la vicina città di Curi, e ne rapì le donne. Nel dipinto è raffigurato il momento in cui i romani rapiscono le donne sabine, sottraendole con la forza ai loro compagni, sotto gli occhi del re, che se resta defilato dietro le colonne del tempio della divinità, appunto il dio Nettuno riconoscibile dal tridente. Al centro posteriormente l' obelisco, che per i romani acquisì il significato simbolico come bottino di guerra e testimonianza della forza imperiale. Le tante figure si intrecciano tra di loro, inseguendosi, sovrapponendosi, creando giochi di corpi ed effetti cromatici. Restaurato e ritelato, il dipinto è presentato in cornice antica.
