The mythological subject that portrays together the two deities symbolize profane Love, has been extensively illustrated in art: as in this work, Venus is usually depicted in a languid attitude, while exhibiting her naked Beauty; Cupid, in the guise of a winged putto, is intent on drawing from his quiver one of his love-inducing darts, one of which is already lodged in the torso behind the goddess.
