About

Galatians 1:1 and 2 Corinthians 10:5-13:12. "Signs of an Apostle" [2 Cor 10-12]. Pocket sized rubricated and illuminated manuscript, pen and ink. Medium-sized, 7" x 5". Handwritten and illuminated in Paris, 1250, in the manner of the Johannes Grusch Atlier Workshop. On fine translucent creamy vellum (animal skin, parchment), quite clean and sharp. Wide margins. Stunning pen-work and fancy scroll work, with 1 huge and 3 medium initials in Red and Blue, still bright and sharp. Painted serpent-dragon beast with wings within a 7-line initial "P" (for Paul), with an extended 16+2 line beak, and a 4-line preface initial in patterns, in blue, pink, orange, burnished gold (faded), green, gray, yellow, and red. In 2 Corinthians, Paul is keen to defend his apostleship with "signs of the cross." COA on premium "gold leaf" paper with gold seal and signature. "Origins of the Vulgate Bible" and important verses in English, on an explanatory card. Manuscript and COA and Card set in a small museum-quality Portfolio, trifold, approx 9" x 6.5" folded.
