A painting in the Surrealist vein with Hebrew inscription. "Thou shalt not write from left to right". Jiří Sehnal Czechoslovakian actor, writer, producer, artist. Provenance: From the Estate of Robert and Kathryn Altman, NYC. Robert Altman was the director of the TV show M.A.S.H, Gosford Park and many other films, and was nominated for seven Oscar Awards. Collected and promoted by jack Nicholson, Shirley maclaine, Robert Altman close friend of Milos Forman Jiří Sehnal was born on May 29, 1932 in Brno. He grew up in Holešov with his grandmother. In Zlín he started artistically as an amateur and therefore went to study at DAMU, after leaving for FAMU, he studied screenwriting (1956 - 1957) and drama writing in 1959. Middle European Jewish. He was an actor at the Satire Theater at Jan Werich (1955 - 1957), an assistant director at the Barrandov Film Studio (1958 - 1959), again on the Theater on the Stairway (1960) and the Semafor Theater (1960-1961). At that time he also began to paint as a self-taught artist. He found himself appearing, among others, in the plays "If a Thousand Clarins", "Such a Loss of Blood" (Editor) etc. In the second half of the 1950s he also became a popular Czech film star. He presented himself as a man at the bar in Hubáček's ROZTRŽCE (1956), the producer Václav Laurin in the comedy THE DEATH AUTOMOBIL (1956) by director Alfred Radok, the sawmill in Roháčov and Svitáčkov's comedy END JASNOVIDCE (1957) with Miloš Kopecký, friend Viktor in PUPPIES (1958), the man again in Novák's film MAIN WINNERS (1958), the man on the show in the comedy of Ján Kadar and Elmar Klose THE THIRD WISH (1958), Pepus in the agitation comedy director Bořivoj Zeman THE WALK OF WATER (1959) and lastly as merry comedian on TV in his third film, directed by Ivo Novák ŽALOBNÍCI (1960). He also made a commentary on the short ROSNIČCE (1954) and RED, STOP! (1955). However, in 1961, when he became a very popular comedian of Semafor, he emigrated six months before the Berlin Wall came through East Germany to West Berlin (Germany). In Germany he mainly lived as a announcer and the editor of the Czech Broadcasting Radio Free Europe, Deutschlandfunk and Deutsche Welle. He left West Germany, traveled, lived in Israel, Canada, and eventually docked in the United States of America. Here he briefly rehearsed as an editor and member of the BBC radio and Voice of America, but he renewed his painting skills and worked for almost two decades as a painter. In the US, he established contacts with other Czech emigrants, especially Miloš Forman. In the US, Jiří Sehnal, according to the rubber mogul, adopted his artistic pseudonym Jethro Spencer McIntosh. Some of Hollywood's most prominent personalities, such as Jack Nicholson, Henry Fonda, Shirley MacLaine, Robert Altman, and Mikhail Baryshnikov were collectors of his paintings. In 1980 he gained American citizenship and attempted literary and screenwriting activities. Among his hobbies was a carpenter and a beard. He has written several film and television scenes that have never been performed. And after 1989 he finally returned to Bohemia. He translated (from German, for example, the book "Monology in the Leader's Main Tent 1941 - 1944" 1995), wrote dramas and rarely performed, and once again he stood in Suchý Semafor (1994-1998 and 2000-2002) in his play "Night in the Synagogue or The Secrets of Brunhilda's Stockings "(2000), starring JV Stalin and Dry Adolf Hitler. Besides, he performed in "Sedlák, čert a bába" in the Forman Brothers Theater (1994), "Jezinky a bezinky" and "Our Town" in the West Bohemian Theater in Cheb (1998-1999). He returned to Czech film in three episodes: Don Čico in Ruzicka HOTÝLKU IN HEART OF EUROPE (1993), Ferda Kocáb and Radni in video films by Jiří Suchý WHO UNESL KLAUDII? (1999) and ZAJATEC LESA (2001). Occasionally he appeared in commemorative television shows. During his stay in Bohemia, he wrote his memoirs "From Holešova to Hollywood" (1992), "JJV z Hollywoodu / Actor's Short Story" (1995), the collection "Jokes of My Life" (1996) and also never published texts "Everywhere - the worst or the Return of the Unwanted ". Disappointed with his complicated nature and life situation, he lived completely forgotten in the retirement home of Prague. Actor, artist, writer and translator Jiří Sehnal died of jaw cancer on June 17, 2006 in Prague, less than a month after his seventy-fourth birthday.
