Kate de Ruiz
Un Cafecito en Oaxaca

2023

About the Item

Kate Ruiz is an American Artist living in Nicaragua. Leaving Los Angeles for central America in 2015 with her family, she now lives on a small farm they have carved out of the land. Her love of the country, its colors, people, and traditions is evident in her brightly colored works. Ruiz paints large-scale patterned works, full of symbols and the palette of her surroundings. At present, due to shipping constraints between our countries, we are limited to showing her small works, but we hope one day to be able to show her large work. This piece is acrylic on wood panel and features one of the farm Roosters, enjoying coffee on a settee. “Bored by the elusive pursuit of the American dream and desirous of raising a family in a foreign land where the new and different are often extended to the adventurous spirit, I moved to Central America 8 years ago. Having dabbled with paints since my teenage years, I picked them up once again as a means to process and order the raucous beauty and chaotic sensory overload experienced in my daily lived existence.”

Extraordinary versatile in her mediums, Irena could never imagine life without art. She is an artist whose path in the fine arts has led her to a unique expression of mood and color. The combination of antique and a very clean, crisp modern design sense creates a highly prized, individual art style. Her images begin spontaneously and give expression to personal creativity and insight. Each piece is unique in design. Irena often prefers to think of herself as a craftsman, constructing, or interpreting imagery and messages from her conscious and subconscious mind. Irena Ukrainian born lives and works in Los Angeles. STATEMENT I've been drawn by the magical beauty behind fine arts and design since childhood. Having a successful carrier in architecture and design for quite a long time, I began to deal with fine art. I began to look for new ways to express my emotions and feelings. The process of creating art gave me what I wanted - endless ways of expressing myself. During the creating process, I don't limit myself to a specific style or medium therefore my art is mostly represents mixed media. My creating process is based on my emotions and my mood. I'm very spontaneous. Today I might use photography to convey my feelings...tomorrow I might paint to express myself. My work is infused with spirit and energy I felt at the moment I created it. It encourages viewers to interpret it their own way. My art evokes different feelings in the audience depending on their individual experiences and memories. I was and continue to be inspired by the beauty of the world around me and can spent hours to explore it. The rapid world at which is everything changed so fast, I discovered that I will never live in quite the same world. Life unfolds only in moments. Capturing moments that are full of emotion is the key to my art.
