About the Item
Serene, beautifully executed watercolor, using a wide spectrum of color with a delicate and subtle hand, by Don Kitz (American, 1939-2019), c.1970. Feel the peace and serenity of this calm forest stream, as the glassy water collects between mossy rocks and branches, and then gently cascades to the lower pool below. Signed "Don Kitz" lower left. Presented in giltwood frame with mat and glass. Image size: 21"H x 29"W. Framed size: 30"H x 38"W x 1.5"D.
Don Kitz was born in 1939 in Woodbury, New Jersey. He studied art at Philadelphia College of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, receiving his Master’s degree from the San Antonio Art Institute. For 35 years Don lived on the edge of the Upper Buffalo River Wilderness in Northwest Arkansas, where he spent many happy hours hiking and painting in the pristine natural environment. The last few years of Don’s life were spent in Eureka Springs, where he participated in the art community and was active with the Heart of Many Ways, a home for all faiths and spiritual paths. From 1982 to 2005 Don directed the Art Department at North Arkansas College. In this capacity, he designed the teaching studio and adjacent courtyard, built the art program and inspired the artistic endeavors of countless students.
