Bored
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
The artwork "Bored" is a stunning creation that weaves a delicate tapestry of dreams and reality. The artist has skillfully captured the essence of a young girl's imagination, allowing the viewer to peer into the depths of her thoughts and aspirations. The lady's posture exudes an air of calm contemplation, but her eyes tell a different story. They glimmer with a hint of mischief and wonder, hinting at the magical world she has conjured up in her mind. In the background of the painting, the artist has masterfully depicted a vision of northern horsemen, galloping majestically across vast, snow-covered plains. These horsemen, clad in traditional attire, symbolize strength, courage, and freedom - qualities that the young girl may yearn for or admire. The contrast between the girl's stillness and the dynamic scene she envisions creates a captivating juxtaposition, emphasizing the power of imagination and the allure of the unknown. As the viewer gazes at the artwork, they are drawn into a narrative of the young girl's daydream. Perhaps she is longing for adventure, yearning to explore the far-off lands of the North, or maybe she seeks to break free from the mundane routine of everyday life. The painting stirs the imagination, leaving room for personal interpretations and connections. The title "Bored" takes on a deeper meaning in light of the young girl's reverie. It hints at the idea that boredom can be a catalyst for creativity and imagination. In moments of monotony, the mind often seeks escape, finding solace in the realm of daydreams and fantasies. This painting serves as a reminder that boredom is not necessarily a negative emotion, but a gateway to exploration and self-discovery. The artist's technique in "Bored" is nothing short of mesmerizing. The use of vibrant colors and soft brushstrokes adds a touch of surrealism, enhancing the dreamlike quality of the artwork. The girl's expression is a masterpiece in itself, evoking empathy and inviting the viewer to empathize with her world of dreams. In a world where we are constantly surrounded by distractions and technology, "Bored" reminds us of the power of introspection and the beauty of allowing our minds to wander freely. It encourages us to embrace moments of stillness and delve into the depths of our imagination, just like the young girl in the painting. Art has the incredible ability to transport us to different realities, and "Bored" achieves just that. It invites us to envision our own northern horsemen or any other fantastic tales that lie within our hearts. It celebrates the essence of childhood wonder, where even the simplest of moments can become the foundation for extraordinary journeys. In conclusion, "Bored" is an exquisite artwork that captures the essence of a young girl's daydream about northern horsemen. It stands as a testament to the power of imagination and the art of storytelling through visual means. As we gaze upon this masterpiece, let us also be reminded of the beauty of introspection, the allure of dreams, and the magic that lies within every one of us. I Expect
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"I Expect," serves as a potent invitation to dive into the narrative within the frame. The image of a young woman, dressed in jewelry that exudes elegance and sophistication, immediately captures the eye. Her adornments—exquisite earrings and a white necklace—hint at a longing for beauty, meaning, or something more profound. These symbols of refinement and grace offer a glimpse into the desires that lie within the heart of every individual. Especially intriguing is the phrase that accompanies the artwork: "What is it you've been waiting for all these while? It's natural for humans to want more out of life. Being in expectation is evidence of hope...." These words shed light on the artist's intention, inviting viewers to consider the motivations behind their own anticipations and yearnings. The choice of earrings and a necklace as accessories in the artwork symbolizes the pursuit of both material and intangible desires—perhaps success, love, fulfillment, or personal growth. School Boy
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"School Boy" invites viewers to step into the vibrant realm of a young child's imagination. The artwork skillfully portrays the boy's innocence and his sense of wonder as he embarks on the journey of education. The choice of a school bag as a symbol not only signifies his pursuit of knowledge but also represents the responsibilities and expectations placed upon him. The young boy is depicted sitting on a chair, which becomes his temporary throne, a metaphorical representation of the world he occupies. His posture exudes a sense of confidence, suggesting that he is ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead. The colorful background serves as a reflection of the boy's optimistic outlook, emphasizing his excitement for the adventures awaiting him within the classroom. While "School Boy" is visually striking, it also invites viewers to delve deeper into its underlying symbolism. The artwork subtly hints at the transformative power of education and its potential to shape young minds. The choice of a chair as the boy's seat symbolizes the notion of learning, growth, and progress. The vibrant colors surrounding him further represent the diverse opportunities and experiences that education offers. Furthermore, the absence of other figures in the artwork draws attention to the solitary nature of the boy's journey. It highlights the individualistic nature of education, emphasizing the personal responsibility each child carries to harness their potential. Merenini Williams...

Melanated Queen
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"Melanated Queen" is more than just a painting; it's a tribute to the beauty that resides within melanin-rich individuals and an homage to the resilience of African queens throughout history. Odetomi expertly captures the essence of this woman, her features exuding confidence and pride. The warm, earthy tones used to depict her skin convey a sense of strength and natural beauty, while the rose flower ribbon symbolizes femininity and grace. The woman's posture in the painting is a testament to the empowerment of women, especially women of color. Her regal posture and unyielding gaze project an aura of self-assuredness, breaking free from the limiting stereotypes that have plagued the representation of African women in art for centuries. Odetomi's brushstrokes artfully depict the subtle yet powerful transformation of vulnerability into strength, revealing the queen-like qualities present within every woman. Central to the artwork is the rose flower ribbon adorning the woman's hair. The rose has long been associated with love, beauty, and passion, and its presence here infuses the painting with a sense of romance and elegance. Moreover, the rose flower ribbon serves as a symbol of the interconnectedness between nature and the woman's identity. It highlights the harmony she shares with the world around her, as well as her ability to nurture and cultivate beauty in her surroundings. Abayomi Odetomi...

Blowing in the Wind, Original Painting
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Artist Jodi Dann illustrates a diverse array of dahlias set on decorative vases. "Where I live, there can be lots of wind but dahlia roots seem to hold on tight with their strength," shares Jodi. She depicts her favorite flower accentuating their flower heads of various sizes. The complementing peach, purple, wine, and mauve tones evoke a meditative harmony.

About the Artist
In 1999, Jodi Dann seized the opportunity to become a full-time painter. Today, her paintings read like hazy memories of imagined faraway places. The compositions are abstract, but possess strong architectural elements, recalling bridges, arches, and doorways. Each piece retains an overall sense of place without prescribing a location, allowing the viewer to form an individualized connection with the work. Jodi paints from her cozy studio on her property in Oregon while listening to a variety of music on Pandora. She doesn’t feel the need to strive for perfection in her work. “Life isn’t perfect,” says Jodi. “Why force a painting to be?”

Higher Life
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
Bright Toh's creative vision is driven by a deep-rooted appreciation for his African heritage and a desire to pay homage to the intrinsic ties between the people of Africa and their natural surroundings. "Higher Life" stands as a testament to the exquisite synergy that exists between man and wildlife, shedding light on the harmonious relationship they share within their common ecosystem. The central figure in the artwork, a man adorned with the head of a bird, serves as a powerful representation of the mystical connection between humans and nature. The bird, with its freedom to soar through the skies, symbolizes the aspirations of the African people to rise above challenges and embrace a higher state of being. This metamorphosis of man into a bird-like form underscores the spiritual journey of self-discovery and cultural understanding that lies at the heart of African traditions. Toh's meticulous attention to detail and masterful use of colors breathe life into the canvas. The vibrant hues mimic the rich landscapes of Africa, from the lush greenery of the savannahs to the striking plumage of its avian inhabitants. Through a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary artistic techniques, Toh weaves together a tapestry that celebrates the convergence of African heritage and its intertwined relationship with wildlife. The concept of totems holds immense significance in various African cultures, where ancestral reverence is deeply ingrained. In "Higher Life," the man's bird head serves as a totemic representation of his connection to his ancestors, carrying with it the wisdom and experiences of those who came before him. The totem acts as a guiding force, leading the man on a journey of self-discovery and connection to his roots. As viewers immerse themselves in "Higher Life," they are invited to contemplate the timeless relationship between man and nature. Toh's artwork urges us to recognize the importance of preserving our shared environment and the imperative role of cultural heritage in shaping our identities. In a world marked by rapid urbanization and detachment from nature, "Higher Life" serves as a poignant reminder of the intrinsic bond between humanity and the animal kingdom. Bright Toh's artistic prowess in "Higher Life" transcends cultural boundaries, beckoning audiences from all corners of the globe to appreciate the profound unity between humans and wildlife. It is a testament to the enduring legacy of African traditions and an encouragement to embrace our roots as an essential part of who we are. In conclusion, "Higher Life" is not just a stunning work of art; it is an exploration of our place in the world and the intricate ties that bind us with our environment and cultural heritage. Omowumi
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
The title "Omowumi" itself exudes a sense of elegance and mystery, drawing us into the realm of enchantment where the magical moments of life reside. The woman depicted in the painting stands as the embodiment of grace and serenity, radiating an aura of tranquility that mirrors the beauty of the flowers she holds. Her choice of attire, a flowing white armless gown, symbolizes purity and serves as a canvas for the vibrant colors of the bouquet to come alive. The bouquet of flowers cradled in the woman's hands serves as the focal point of the artwork, and rightly so. Flowers, with their ephemeral beauty and fragrance, have long been a symbol of life's fleeting nature and the beauty that resides in transience. They remind us that life is a delicate dance, and every moment should be treasured and savored. "Omowumi" captures the essence of reminiscing about beautiful times spent with flowers in hand...

Contemporary Intimate Embrace of Woman and Goat in Ethereal Blue Hue drawing
Located in ALCOY/ALCOI, ES
Title: «¿A quién no le gusta un chico malo?» Collection: Muses Description: Acrylic on canvas, figurative, natural, gestural, modern "By tradition and social convention, women are educated in moderation and restraint... Strong mental barriers are imposed, turning women into docile and modest beings (especially in societies dominated by religions). As a result, women who are restricted in their education or in what is considered 'forbidden' become objects of desire precisely because of their taboo nature, which is doubly attractive for breaking the norm and defying such a backward education." The artist captures the essence of female empowerment in her work, highlighting the societal barriers that women face in their daily lives. Through her pieces, she challenges the status quo and aims to break down the mental barriers that restrict women. Her work is a celebration of women who choose to defy convention and live life on their own terms, despite the challenges they may face. Victoria Tsemka...
