Michelle Reeves
Balancing Act

About the Item

Local artist Michelle Reeves is a self-taught painter expressing her emotions and point of view on canvas using flowers and nature depicted with careful color consideration and texture building. Reeves found her true calling as an artist later in life when she went back to school to pursue a degree in interior design. Along the way, Reeves found that painting "renewed child-like joy and professional purpose" within her. As a life-long admirer of Monet, Reeves paints the impression, color, and movement of her subject or imagined content—often florals—using a brush and palette knife in an impressionistic style. "Floral beauty has been my sanctuary," says Reeves. "When I started to paint, it came as no surprise when flowers exploded out of me as they bring me so much joy and wonderful memories." Reeves paints with a "what if" mentality, allowing spontaneity and risk-taking to bring an added level of energy to her work.

  • CHROMASEEDS - Framed Mixed Media Painting of 3 Gaillardia w/ Blooms Falling
    By Heather Hartman
    Located in Signal Mountain, TN
CHROMASEEDS is a multilayered composition created with paper and tyvek cut-outs painted with oil, acrylic, and gouache, sealed with polyester mesh layers. The plants represented in the piece are Gaillardia flowers, commonly known as blanket flowers, native to North America and often bred for their decorative, ornamental shape. In her creative process, Hartman anthropomorphizes the flowers, paying attention to their dance-like growth movement. Here, their shadows dance in the prismatic light of the rainbow, while the wind catches their seeds, cultivating the garden. The vibrant, rainbow light was achieved by painting a prismatic shape on tyvec and black paper, creating a reverse silhouette...
