This lovely British Victorian portrait oil painting is by noted and well exhibited artist Alfred Fitzwalter Grace. Painted circa 1875 it is a seated profile portrait of Charles Francis Montresor, whose details are below. Painted in gorgeous warm tones there is fantastic brushwork and lovely detail in his facial features. A really lovely Victorian portrait by an artist who exhibited prolifically including 38 paintings at the Royal Academy London. Provenance. Sitter details and artist' name on label verso. Roland Browse and Delbanco Gallery - label verso. Condition. Oil on canvas, 30 inches by 24 inches and in good condition. Frame. Housed in a complementary frame, 38 inches by 32 inches and in good condition. Alfred Fitzwalter Grace (1844-1903). Dulwich born landscape and portrait painter. Studied Heatherleys and RA Schools (Turner gold medal). Author of 'A Course of Landscape Painting'1881. Was a friend of Whistler & lived at Steyning. RBA 1875. Sitter details: Charles Francis Montresor (1825-1898) was born at Provender Court, Kent, England. He was the son of Sir Henry Tucker Montresor and Annetta (Cage) Montresor. Brother of John Henry Montresor [half], Frances Harriet Montresor [half], Henry Edward Montresor, Edward John Thomas Montresor and Annetta Frances Montresor. He married Catherine Joanna Jackson, daughter of Welby Brown Jackson and Katherine Hungerford, on 1 May 1848 at Bengal, India. He died in September 1898 at Bedfordshire, England.
