About the Item

Precipitate is painted in the classical style of Realism that he first learned at the Florence Academy of Art. He has painted portraits over the years and is known for showing the expressions in the person's face. He is also know for winning the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo art contest for several years when he was in high school. His paintings sold for over $200,000 with the proceeds going to the scholarship fund. Anton Zhou Painter, Draftsman Anton Zhou is a painter and draftsman whose work operates along the lines of impressionistic realism. Having studied at the Florence Academy of Art and Columbia University in New York City, he paints primarily in oils with elements that span both classical realism and contemporary art. A Houston native, Anton was named a Young Master by the Texas Commission on the Arts and is represented by artist organizations across the states. Artist Statement “Crafted by classical methods and embellished with a vibrant palette, my artistic practice revolves around expressing the ephemeral nature of our surroundings. The transitory state of each happening allows for only brief but pure recollections, so adopting a candid lens is a way of genuinely feeling moments, examining their context and illuminating the beauty woven into this space. A painter of light, I find myself maneuvering between tight brush strokes and aggressive mark making to depict luminosity in a tranquil yet dynamic fashion. I’m particularly intrigued by light’s ability to contextualize intimate stories in a constantly changing world. My work ultimately seeks to chronicle the various emotions and experiences that construct these narratives.”

Samuel S.Hoskins Statement on The Traveler : I hold a deep appreciation for the motif of the traveler. I prefer to perceive my life as a narrative in which I play the role of a traveler. Much like in life itself, this journey involves navigating through various elements and facing the challenges that life presents. At times, the journey may be characterized by sunny and pleasant moments, while at other times, it might resemble a chaotic storm. Nevertheless, there is a profound beauty woven in it all. It fulfills a social and practical function, and also has a high cultural and ideological value, being one of the most outstanding examples of the Modernist Movement in Cuba. Emergence of a sui generis place STATEMENT: The National School of Art arises from the need to create a system for arts education in Cuba and achieve its expansion throughout the country. Treasuring our cultural traditions, and conceived as a multidisciplinary center, it gathered the best examples of art in all its manifestations to create the first faculty. For the first time in history, an art school received students from all social classes and regions, making it majority´s right. The selection is based only on the ability and talent of the candidates, which are subject, prior to admission, to very rigorous and grueling tests. In the first academic courses, students had to overcome two levels of education (elementary and middle), but in 1976 it was created the ISA for university education of their students. Expansion of education at the National School of Arts The National School of Arts began teaching four specialties: ballet, music, drama and visual arts. Later modern...

  • Portrait of Old Woman 1893 by Famous Russian Master Oil Painting on Canvas Frame
    Located in Stockholm, SE
Attributed by Nikolay Alekseyevich Kasatkin (1859 - 1930). In this touching artwork, the artist perfectly conveyed the character of the old woman, who has seen a lot in her life. The hands, tired out and riddled with veins, lie helplessly on the knees. Her slouched body tells us about the load of years lived. The painter skillfully conveys a sense of wisdom, kindness, and humility through her wrinkled face and detached gaze. The painting exudes warmth with a subtle touch of sadness and reflection on a life lived. Thanks to moderately contrasting colors, the portrait comes to life and shows us the depth of the artist's intention. Kasatkin not only continued the traditions of the best masters of portraiture in Russia in the 19th century, but also introduced new principles into it. He sought to display on canvas not only the external features of a person, but also to demonstrate his spiritual world. Antique oil painting on canvas, signed bottom left, framed. Size app.: 68.5 x 52.3 cm (roughly 27 x 20.6 in), frame is 80.5 x 63.5 cm (roughly 31.7 x 25 in). Very good condition, very well preserved recently conserved condition with minimal wear (notice few micro losses here and there). Please study good resolution images for cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 5.4 kg is going to measure 8 kg packed for shipment. Nikolay Alekseyevich Kasatkin (1859 - 1930) was a Russian painter, considered to be one of the founders of Social Realism in Russia. From 1873 to 1883 he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture with Vasily Perov and Illarion Pryanishnikov. Upon graduating, he received a medal for his painting "Beggars at the Church Door". In 1891, he began exhibiting with the Peredvizhniki and, from 1894 to 1917, was a teacher at his alma mater. For thirty years, beginning in 1883, he worked with Ivan Sytin, providing illustrations for his popular almanac/calendars and teaching lithography. He also contributed The Great Reform, an encyclopedia that celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Emancipation (1861), and a collection called "Russian History in Pictures". In 1903, he became a member of the Imperial Academy of Arts. He participated in the Exposition Universelle (1900), where he won a silver medal, and the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904), among others. In 1923, following the Civil War, he was named the first "People's Artist of the Republic" and became a member of the AKhRR (Association of Artists). He is considered to be one of the forerunners of Socialist Realism in the arts and was sometimes called the "Gorky of Painters". In 1956, the Soviet Union honored him with a 40 kopeck commemorative postage stamp. In 1971, his painting of a female mine worker...
