"The Yellow Wallpaper" is an acrylic-on-canvas painting from a small series by Cuban artist Carlos Gamez de Francisco. "The Yellow Wallpaper" features a young blonde woman against a lilac purple background at the top of the canvas. Only her eyes, nose, and part of her forehead are visible. A block of solid bright yellow covers her mouth and takes up the rest of the canvas. Surrounding her face are two large insects, one in flight and one resting on her hair. Francisco includes multiple insects in many of his paintings. Insects flying up represent freedom, insects flying down or falling represent chaos, and insects at rest represent balance between the two.
