About the Item
Portrait of Woman is an original artwork realized by François Chapuis in 1971.
Colored pastel on paper. Hand-signed in pencil by the artist on the lower right; dated in pen. Excellent conditions.
The artwork represents a very elegant portrait with the figure of a woman in the center of the composition. The lineaments of the figure are stylized, and only two colors define the volumes of the figure. In the early years of the 1970s, Chapuis realized many portraits of women of the same kind. The face is only sketched out, but it occupies the whole sheet of paper.
François Chapuis was a French artist. He moved to Nancy with his family, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts. Later, he moved to Paris, where he studied at the Centre d'Art Sacré. He also created many glass windows for churches. His name is famous for the "mur lumière", connected with the application of different materials on top of a surface.
