Lionel Ellis
Portrait of Woman in Red Shawl - Nudes verso - British 1940's art oil painting

Circa 1940

About the Item

This lovely British portrait oil painting is by noted artist Lionel Ellis. Painted circa 1940, the picture is a half-length seated portrait of a smiling woman wrapped in a red shawl, her dark hair cascading down one shoulder in a long ringlet. There is great detail in her serene facial features and superb vibrant colours. This is a superb example of Ellis' work with good provenance and has equally interesting classical nudes verso. It is unsigned as many of his works were. Provenance. Previous estate of Barbara Shaw, the artist's wife. Condition. Oil on canvas, 30 inches by 25 inches and in good condition. Frame. Housed in a complementary frame, 37 inches by 32 inches and in good condition.
