About the Item
This large-scale pure abstract painting features hues of blue, orange, brown and green. This piece includes acrylic, diamond dust, red clay & mica on canvas.
Sachi Rome is inspired by the works of Gerhard Richter, Deborah Dancy, Ed Clark, M. Florine Démosthène, Morel Doucet and Kassou Seydou.
Sachi Rome is an Atlanta-based multidisciplinary Artist and educator who focuses on vibrant and richly textured abstractions. Her primary mediums are acrylic and handmade paints, diamond dust, and Georgia red clay. She activates the alchemy of these materials to create safe sacred spaces, conversations with the spiritual realm, and generational hereditary memory.
Through layered abstractions, Sachi’s most recent body of work Liminal Space engages the “in-between” as a site of possibility. Her use of clay—grounded in the Southern landscape—creates a visual metaphor for the layered histories of the South, where generational trauma and resilience coexist. By merging color, texture, and found materials, Rome constructs a conversation between the spiritual realm and hereditary memory, inviting viewers to meditate on the thresholds between the tangible and intangible, the historical and the imagined. In that act of meditation there is an open invitation to pause and rest.
Sachi has a Bachelor of Education from Morris Brown College, Atlanta, Georgia, with a concentration in painting and a Master of Arts from Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has exhibited at The University of Southern Mississippi Museum, Hammonds House Museum, Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking, Kennesaw University, Chastain Arts Center, among others. Her work is held in multiple public and private collections throughout the United States. Sachi’s artwork and poetry are included in the book, Shifting Time: African American Artists 2020-2022, co-edited by Klare Scarborough and Berrisford Boothe. This anthology explores the art of over 70 nationally known African American Artists.

Sachi Rome lives and works in Atlanta, the city where she was born and raised. She graduated with a Bachelor of Education from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia with a concentration in painting, under the tutelage of renowned painter Louise Delsarte. Rome went on to attain a Master of Arts from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Rome is a multidisciplinary artist and muralist, flowing seamlessly from painting, printmaking and large scale murals. Foundational to her practice is the use of rich vibrant color and texture, leaning into abstract figurative works that push beyond both the literal and figurative representation of black bodies. Her work is reflective of critical questions surrounding identity, representation, and the creation of a metaphysical space for black bodies to safely exist in. She has been featured in Forbes, The NY Times and the Huffington Post. Her awards and recognition include The Creatives Project Residency (2020-2022), Garden Fellows Fellowship (2018), Stay-home Residency (2021), Fulton County Arts and Culture Grant Awardee (2020). Her work has been acquired by both public institutions and private collectors throughout the United States. Her exhibition record includes the Apex Museum (GA), Nowhere Art Gallery-Martha’s Vineyard (MA), University of Southern Mississippi (MS), Bo Barrett Art Center (NY), Swan Coach House (GA), Mason Fine Art (GA), Lyndon House Art Center (GA), amongst others. Her murals and public art can be seen throughout the city of Atlanta. She has spent her artistic career in the dual roles of artist and educator.
