About the Item
Steve Sangapore’s “Collapse: Of the Self #2” is a 14 x 11 oil and ink painting female portrait on a wood panel from his Superposition series. The contemporary realist portrait is paired with a textured ink geometric line drawing. The work is mounted in a ornate gold wood floater frame, 22 x 19 x 1 inches, and is signed bottom center.
The Superposition series focuses on modern science, namely Quantum Theory, and questions consciousness and the creation of the universe. Contemporary science through empirical testing informs us that there in an inextricable and dualistic link between an observer and the object being observed. This series explores this duality by splitting the canvas into two halves. On one side, the world as we perceive and in which we interact, and the other a creative line work illustrating the superposition of particles and the non-locality of the quantum world.
Steve Sangapore is a graduate of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT, where he received a B.A. in studio art and graphic design. His interest in science and philosophy has been a driving force behind his latest work. Sangapore has been published in The Boston Globe, Art Business News, Creative Quarterly, Artscope, and E-Squared Magazine. He is based in Boston, MA. Sangapore is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

- PantheonLocated in Milano, MIUrbex is the English acronym for urban exploration and is an activity that consists of searching for and locating abandoned infrastructure with the goal of visiting, photographing and conveying its contents, with particular involvement of methodologies from geography, anthropology, sociology to cultural studies. Her works have been in the past approached to the works of Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945) and Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1770), but in Gullotta's paintings the absence of color makes the spaces particularly ethereal, allowing them to be ideally lifted to new places and to new life.
