Adele has always been fascinated by flowers and Floriography. Dating back to the Victorian times floriography was used as a means of coded communication through various flowers and floral arrangements, allowing people to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken. Within this exciting new collection Adele wants to explore this language with the use of flora within her works. Each painting having a meaning and a message behind it! With many layers and washes of inks and acrylic paint, this strong but delicate painting is full of colour, energy and life. This sits beautiful against the fragility and delicacy in which Adele has approached the subject matter. Adele has used a free flowing approach with her mark making, by using a white, high gloss fluid acrylic, thus giving the painting a sense of movement, drama and texture, as it’s slightly raised this catches the light beautifully. Adele Riley as a British-born artist living in Gloucestershire, I'm surrounded by some of the most natural and inspiring surroundings in the UK, well-placed to benefit from a huge variety of light, texture, and drama – perfect for what I do. I usually begin by sensing the subject, sometimes using a photo or a sketch to extract weather, light, horizons and shapes to commit the scene to canvas with a variety of media and paint. What I fear most is repetition, so I experiment a lot with media and colour, asking questions of the fresh and the new, trying things out (getting things wrong), but all the time learning and looking to improve. Having studied Illustration at Epsom School of Art, I have always continued to learn and develop from my experiences and travels. Not having a formal arts grounding I found to be a positive thing, as I could appreciate painting by it’s many disciplines. I learned more by challenging the rules of fine art, as well as applying them. It helped drive my enthusiasm until I arrived at a style of painting that represents me as an artist. In addition to painting, I teach art to adults and children both through my business based in Gloucester, and in surrounding local schools

Lift [2021] Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look This contemporary abstract is sure to bring a little lift to your mood whenever you pass by. If there is one lesson recent events have taught us, it is the importance if the people & things which we see every day and surround ourselves with. A good reason to bring little shot of colour and light to your space. Catherine Pennington-Meyer is an award-winning artist who currently lives and works near Munich, in Germany. Her work concentrates primarily on abstract expressionism. Catherine has participated in exhibitions throughout Europe and has quickly established a prestigious international collector base. Catherine says of her art: `I see my painting as a kind of language, translating what I feel or experience to those viewing it. I am innately drawn to create raw, emotive, expressionist pieces, mostly abstracts, which distil a subject down to its feeling. I don`t only want my art to be `beautiful` but for it to reach out and touch the person who is viewing it on an immediate, intuitive level. I want my paintings to speak to their audience in their own visceral language. I am influenced by nature, particularly the multifaceted nature of water, and memories of growing up in particularly beautiful landscapes in North Yorkshire and Scotland. I also find human psychology and science fascinating. But I see compositions everywhere, whether it be flowers in a park, the way smoke curls, books on a library shelf or a street market. Everything is made up of shapes and colours. The world is a constant source influences and inspiration.’ Over time, as her work has developed, she has been increasingly compelled towards abstraction, through which she feels able to communicate an energy which is untethered by the constraints of realism. She enjoys playing with light, depth and movement in her art to give it immediacy and to draw a viewer into the composition. Catherine also enjoys poetry, and her works occasionally have accompanying narratives. Catherine views visual and written art...

A painting by Penelope Gottlieb. "Castilleja cruenta standl" is a contemporary painting, ink, acrylic and oil on canvas panel in a variety of bright, bold colors by American artist Penelope Gottlieb. After receiving her BFA from the Art Center College for Design in Pasadena, Penelope Gottlieb went on to earn her MFA from the University of California in Santa Barbara where she currently lives and works. Gottlieb’s artistic repertoire is thoroughly modern and includes innovative paintings as well as compelling media design, for which she received an Emmy in the field of motion picture title design in 1993. Gottlieb’s more recent works showcase a unique synthesis of her modern graphic design background and the vintage botanical renderings of natural scientists. However, her paintings are also unique in their perspective on the traditional floral still life. Stylized flora and fauna are depicted as emanating from a comic book explosion, illustrating what the artist refers to as “the dire state of the planet” as faced with species extinction and the resulting biological and ecological ramifications. These violent representations of the artistically typified placid natural world are intended as “visual eulogies for lost plant life.” The particular specimens that Gottlieb depicts are in fact extinct and she is able to recreate them only from historical drawings and botanist’s descriptions. Although avant-garde and aesthetically unique, Gottlieb’s paintings delineate clear influences from the renowned artists of Pop and Expressionist art. The composition of many of her paintings is reminiscent of Kandinsky’s canvas-filling outpours while her bold color palette and black outlines recall Lichtenstein’s comic book panels. Her work is also closely related to a more contemporary group of artists, including Alexis Rockman...
