About the Item

The work of Alberto Romero consists mainly of paintings and drawings, but also other techniques are used such as video and photography. He is a contemporary artist, inspired and trained by Antonio López García. One of the leading Spanish Realism painters. Besides Antonio López he admires other artists, that, with their way of working have a special place in Art History. From Velazquez and Vermeer through Mondriaan and Giacommetti we see a way of looking at the world and topics of every day life reflected in Artwork. Alberto also looks at his topics in this way and he translates this into works of contemporary art for the 21st century. The work of Alberto Romero is contemporary and asks the viewer to concentrate. His subtle way of working sometimes results in a rejection of the current art scene They see the work as traditional still-lives, but on the other hand, the lovers of realism other struggle as well as the works are not aiming to be a perfect “photo” of the topic painted, but see an abstraction, that they find difficult to address. Alberto Romero Paints still-lives, but instead of exact copies of the objects or looking at a traditional setting, he chooses to bring the objects back to their essence. You are seeing a set of pumpkins, but nothing else. The surrounding of the pumpkins comes to live by its different shades of color, very subtle, bringing the objects to life. This is also reflected in the name of the exhibition: Medios Tonos – different shades of colour within a very reduced pallet. In our current times, with a constant flow of images and impressions, the work of Alberto is a pause. Objects as lemons, eggs, pumpkins, brought back to the essence in an empty space. Alberto Romero exhibits his work on a regular basis in Spain, From Seville to Madrid and from Avila to Barcelona. In Barcelona he is represented by gallery Parès. In 2017 he had the honor to exhibit together with Antonio Lopéz in Avila. His work is included in private and public collections as Fundación Vila-casas/ Fundación Rodriguez-Acosta/ Diputación de Segovia/ Patrimonio UB /Colección DKV. Alberto Romero teaches Art at the University of Barcelona.
