About the Item

Ali Hasmut graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Baghdad with a degree of Bachelor of Plastic Arts, in Iraq in 1997. After graduation, he moved to Jordan to pursue a painting career. Between 1997 and 2000 Hasmut has worked simultaneously with two Jordanian galleries in Amman -- Dar Alanda and Orphely - presenting oil painting work such as classical portraits, still life, landscapes and figures. Hasmut's work quickly gained popularity and became extremely respected amongst Jordanian Royalty. Hasmut had a great opportunity to paint portraits of the royal family members. In 2000, Hasmut moved to the United States. His first exhibit called "Iraqi Artist" was held at the Sevan Gallery in November 2009. In same year, Hasmut became a member of the Palette and Chisel Art Academy in Chicago. In 2010 Hasmut was awarded 3rd place in the Palette and Chisel Golden Medal Exhibition. In July, 2011 the artist presented his solo exhibition titled "Reflections" in the Palette and Chisel Art Academy. Hasmut focuses on painting figure, portrait and still live and puts a strong emphasis on a composition by transforming all necessary ingredients such as: color, texture and light into one single harmony. Hasmut's technique of playfully arranging different color hues creates movements in paintings. The texture defines the depth of the painting and also produces an illusion that the subject is closer to the viewer. The light and the shadow define desired feelings that artist is presenting. In short, Hasmut's paintings show the simple beauty of the chosen subject and produce an emotional impact to viewers.
