Anna Boch
Anemones, Still Life, Flowers, Owned "The Vigne Rouge" by Van Gogh

About the Item

Anna Rosalie Boch was a Belgian painter, art collector, and the only female member of the artistic group, Les XX. She was born in Saint-Vaast, Hainaut in Belgium in 1848. A pupil of Isidore Verheyden, she was influenced by Théo van Rysselberghe whom she met in the Groupe des XX. Besides her own work, Boch held one of the most important collections of Impressionist paintings of her time. She promoted many young artists including Vincent van Gogh who was a friend of her brother, Eugène Boch. The Vigne Rouge (The Red Vineyard), purchased by Anna Boch, was long believed to be the only painting Van Gogh sold during his lifetime. Boch's work is in the Musée Royal des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
