David Konigsberg
Night Season (Impressionistic Oil Painting of Tiger Striped Cat on a Porch)

2016

About the Item

56 x 58 x 2 inches oil on canvas, white wood frame Through expressionistic gestures and a sophisticated handling of paint, David Konigsberg's works take on a life of their own, so that even inanimate objects seem filled with energy and intent. This painting captures a delightful scene of a lazy cat taking a nap in the abundant late afternoon light on a porch. David Konigsberg is a conceptual realist who works across media and painting genres to portray transitional spaces, metaphoric moments and alternative histories. A long-time member of the Gowanus and Red Hook artist communities in Brooklyn, he is now based in Hudson and employs the area's landscapes as the setting and sometimes subject of his work. The artist’s work has been exhibited throughout out the United States and has been featured in The New York Times, Chronogram and Brooklyn Journal and numerous art and culture blogs. David Konigsberg lives and works in Hudson, New York. • Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas)
    By Dan Rupe
    Located in Hudson, NY
Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas) by Dan Rupe 22 x 22 inches oil on linen canvas Signed on reverse Artist Dan Rupe paints only from life, his composition ruled by his intuitive sense of formal order. He begins covering his canvas with a deep crimson wash. This ground gives his brilliant pure color , applied with an expressive, direct gesture, an electric charge. No matter how often or how long one looks at a Rupe painting, it is always the present tense. The tone of his palette, the freshness and clarity of primary colors, reflects an optimistic attitude, an intrinsic love of life. In this work, three vibrant peach colored lilies open their blooms amidst bright green grasses. Rupe succeeds at capturing the immediacy of his subjects be it flowers, buildings or people. Read below for an amusing profile written about the artist in 2003: You‘ve likely seen him on the streets of Hudson, seated before his canvas in a multi-colored paint daubed t-shirt and shorts, his straw hat providing shade for all but his tanned forearms and knees. His splattered Technicolor Walkman tape player...

  • Lotus No. 8 (Realist Still Life Painting of Green lotus leaves and flower buds)
    By Frank DePietro
    Located in Hudson, NY
20 x 16 x 1.5 inches oil on canvas Painted with the exactness of a still life photograph, this hard edge realist painting by artist Frank DiPetiro of Lotus leaves and buds about to bloom glows with green luminescence against a pale gray background. Inspired by close observations of the natural world and encounters with still moments that give us pause. Lines, shapes and colors encountered in nature, reveal the cycles of decay and regeneration that are life’s constant state of change. The work has a quiet, meditative quality. The subject is portrayed in a manner true to their existence in a specific time and place and selected based on considerations of visual relationships to formal elements of painting. Aspects of photo realism, hard edge and color field techniques are uti-lized to isolate the uniqueness of the subject’s detail, as well as emphasize flatness and illusion of depth within the two-dimensional space of the painting. About the artist: Frank DiPietro was born and raised in Scranton PA. He received a Bachelor of Art from Bloomsburg University in 1997, majoring in both Painting and Ceramics with a minor in Art History. In 2000 he earned a degree in Art Education from Moore College of Art and Design while continuing his studies in painting. Frank lived in Philadelphia for twelve years painting and teaching at several museums, art centers and schools in the region. In 2010 he and his family moved to Chester County PA, where he currently resides. Frank currently teaches painting classes and workshops at the Delaware Art Museum and Longwood Gardens...
