About the Item
A fine still life oil painting with flowers in vases by American artist Everett Lloyd Bryant (1864-1945). Bryant was raised in Galion, Ohio, and showed early art talent but had no formal study until he was age 28. He studied in London with Herbert Herkomer and Monat Loudan, and later in Paris with M.Blanc and Thomas Couture. After three years in Europe, he shared business pursuits with his brother that included a trip to Alaska.
Returning to art, he attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Thomas Anshutz, William Merritt Chase, and Cecilia Beaux. He married Maude Drein, a fellow student in 1904, and they traveled in Europe. They also spent much time in Southern Maryland, Maine and New Hampshire. In 1909, he moved to Baltimore and in 1930 to Los Angeles where he was active taking numerous sketching trips into Arizona and Nevada.
