Helga SchollerBlumenstillleben
About the Item
The artist's modesty was probably an obstacle to her career. Her magnificent, expressive works have few equals in Austria, but the time has come for her work to be honoured anew after her death.
The work of Helga Scholler, who was born in Leoben (Austria) in 1938, is entirely in the tradition of Austrian Expressionism of the Interwar period. In the design of the picture surfaces, Helga Scholler resorts to soft contours, which are determined by pure and contrasting areas of colour as a defining means of expression.
The uniqueness of her work lies in the spontaneity of the pictorial realisation, which unfolds its full impact through the interplay of colourful intensity and compositional lightness. In particular, the painterly atmospheres of the city and country views bear witness to a cheerfulness that is rarely found.

- SunflowersBy Ernst NeuschulLocated in Wien, 9Ernst Neuschul was born into a German-Jewish merchant family in the industrial town of Aussig/Ebe (Usti nad Labem) in northern Bohemia. His origins and ancestry had a decisive influence on the biography of this versatile and restless artist. The artist's life pulsates with the rhythm of his time. As a socially critical and highly political artist, he lived and worked at the focal points of European history. As a person and an artist, Neuschul embodied like few others of his time the impetuous, cosmopolitan and creative search for a new social and artistic reality in Europe between the two world wars.
