Jacques Zucker
Still life of Flowers on Table

20th Century

About the Item

Jacques Zucker was a prolific artist whose works are exhibited in Museums and galleries around the world. Being heavily influenced by artist such as Soutine, Chagall, and Renoir, we can see hints of their styles suggested in many of his works. Although he was very fond of these artists, Zucker's works are mainly impacted by his travels to Paris, America, and France. Many of his works depict city street scenes, the sea shore, flower still life, and portraits of friends and relatives. He has developed a style completely apart from his influences, creating works that are rich in texture, color and emotion. This painting depicts a beautiful still life of flowers in a vase sitting atop a table. This piece has such wonderful tonalities as the lush colors of the flowers becomes the main focus. The fun details are what make this painting so attractive and desirable; there is a clock and magazine atop the table, with a small box. The piece is done in a highly impressionistic manor with unique colors and expressions. This painting is a wonderful display of Zucker's more impressionistic styles, with bold colors of blues, reds, pinks, and joyful greens. PROVENANCE: Jacques Zucker Estate; Private Collection New York City; Lilac Gallery Collection. The piece will be stamped from Lilac Gallery on its verso.

  • "Still Life with Roses and Fruit" Impressionist Oil of Canvasboard Painting
    By Martha Walter
    Located in New York, NY
A whimsical depiction by Martha Walter of an interior morning scene of white and pink roses arrangement in a glass vase on top of a table, and fruit on a decorated plate. In the background, the window overlooking the backyard, with the use of bold colors and strong contrasts makes Walter's work so striking and captivating. The flowers are executed with bold petals and exciting colors and this depiction is a wonderful scene done in her home. As an acclaimed American Impressionist painter and one of the premier female artists to be recognized within the fine arts community of the time, she was known for her bright plein-air beach scenes and domestic portraits. Martha Walter studied under William Merritt Chase and was greatly influenced by the then-established French Impressionists Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Claude Monet, and Eugène Boudin. Walter's works took on a looser style; she also used black paint, a color often excluded by other Impressionists. The painting is on canvasboard with the Martha Walter Estate stamp on the reverse, and it comes housed in an antiqued champagne color...
