Katharine spent a long time mixing paint to reach the right level of smokiness and avoid any saccharine pink in these peonies. They seem to be quite solid but at the same time quite delicate, they are a joy to paint. Katharine Rowe is an English painter she graduated in Fine Art and History of Art at the University of Edinburgh in 1999 and spent a year studying at Université de la Sorbonne, Paris. Having spent a decade working in advertising Katharine felt the increasing need to be out of the office and with her paintbrush. The past 9 years have been dedicated to just that. Katharine is strongly motivated by colour and she often spends up to an hour mixing and preparing paints before turning to the canvas. This was the flower artist Katherine Rowe had in her wedding bouquet and so they have always had a special place in my heart. Despite being 'white' there is hardly any actual pure white in the painting but multiple blues and yellows and greens. Born in Damascus in 1951, Ali Mourabet has lived in Beirut with his family for the greater part of his life. An architect since 1976, he has a long-running passion for designing buildings, and as a professional artist since 1977, a love for depicting scenes from Lebanon, and this is reflected in much of his work. Regarding both architecture and painting as forms of art, Mourabet is never without a pencil or a paintbrush in his hand and to this day continues to experiment with new processes and techniques, especially in more recent years, having freed up more time to focus on his fine art practice. The consistent theme running through Mourabet’s captivating paintings is their extremely vibrant colour palette. With many of his works presenting simplistic geometric shapes and architectural forms and others depicting everyday life in his immediate surroundings, Mourabet is continuously seeking to explore different styles and techniques, while at the same time remaining faithful to the subjects closest to his heart.
